And I wash it once a week. Growing up I always had very flat, volume-less hair that got greasy the day after I washed it. I loaded it up with volume creating shampoo, sprayed it with root lifter, got some of that dry shampoo stuff they sell. I tried everything and nothing worked. When I got older, I gave up on those products and switched to an all natural shampoo and that did help, I also stopped washing it everyday, but it still was limp and got greasy fast.
Finally this summer I tried something new, baking soda and apple cider vinegar. A number of my friends swore by it so I gave it a shot. You use the soda as shampoo and the vinegar as your conditioner. My hair was super fluffy afterwards! I couldn't believe it! I kept up the routine for the next couple months, washing only once or twice a week. Eventually though I noticed that the soda was making my hair get dried out, so I switched to using only the vinegar. My hair was getting stronger and shinier, and no longer had any grease. I was traveling at the time, and keeping vinegar in your bag on the go isn't easy, so I eventually ran out. After a couple weeks had passed without it, I couldn't believe it, but my hair was coming out clean and fluffy after a shower by simply scrubbing under hot water. No tangles, my hair was stronger and no split ends. I now only have to wash it maybe once a week, and every time it comes out looking shiny, clean and full of volume! One less store bought product for me. One less piece of trash created. Give it a shot! I promise it works. Just start by using the baking soda and vinegar method for a bit to clean your hair from the nasty build-up of glycerol and other chemicals found in shampoos. You may notice your hair needs some time to adjust, but it is worth the patience.

I started this food blog focused on health and nutrition over a year ago now. It all began to follow me along my discovery of the joy and beauty in a plant based diet. To share with you my vegemication through recipes I made up along the way. What I didn't realize a year ago, is that this journey would bring me through a whole different revolution that had very little to do with food. A year ago, my reasons for changing to a plant based life were selfish; they were about losing weight, about getting my body healthy and only partly about animal rights. Today, everything has changed. A fire has been lit inside me, its flame is growing everyday and my voice is getting louder. That is why I am starting this second part of my blog; I'm in need of an outlet. This planet we live on, we are so lucky to call it home, and everyday we poison it. Where is our gratitude, our compassion, our love? It is time to wake up, time to face some ugly truths; take your blinders off with me. Do you sometimes feel helpless against global warming, against your government, against society? What difference can ONE person make against the 7 billion people on this earth? Every revolution started somewhere; with one person who woke up, who opened their eyes, who questioned the norm. Last month I watched a documentary, and that film set a fire under my feet. It is called Cowspiracy and I ask you please watch it. Take your blinders off with us. There is a revolution starting, jump on board with us. Become a part of the change. On this blog I am going to share with you everything I do in my life to try to reduce my carbon footprint. They are small changes, but every little thing counts. I care about this planet and about its future and every creature who lives with us. What can you do to help make a difference? What does this world mean to you? |
